Tan Yan Ru


Yan Ru graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (2nd Class (Upper Division) Honours) and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) (Minor in Psychology) under the highly selective Double Degree Programme jointly offered by the National University of Singapore and Yale-NUS College. She is a practising Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore.

Her multi-disciplinary education informs her legal practice which spans the breath of matrimonial, criminal, civil and corporate matters. Yan Ru is well-versed in various areas of family and matrimonial law such as contested and uncontested divorce proceedings, disputes over child custody, maintenance and division of matrimonial assets. On the criminal side, she specializes in matters under the Protection from Harassment Act and regulatory offences.

Yan Ru’s firm belief in therapeutic justice and her facilitative dispute resolution style earned her the Distinction Award for Mediation Advocacy in the Part B Singapore Bar Examinations. She is also effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin, which helps her assist clients from all walks of life and further her hopes of increasing access to legal representation.

Outside of law, Yan Ru is an accomplished stage actress who has performed with renowned local theatre companies such as W!ld Rice, Singapore Repertory Theatre and Pangdemonium. She is also a playwright and songwriter.
